Dr Ramesh Sahathevan is a Neurologist with over 15 years of experience. He has lived and worked in Ballarat since 2016 and holds a public appointment at the Ballarat Base Hospital. He has a special interest in treating patients with stroke and cognitive disorders and focuses on neurological disorders in the elderly.


Dr Sahathevan accepts referrals in general neurology including headache/migraine, epilepsy, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, cognitive disorders and dementia, neurodegenerative disorders, neuropathies and neuromuscular disorders. 

 

Dr Sahathevan has a research interest in stroke and cognitive disorders, and is widely published.

Dr Mandy Lau is a Neurologist and Neurophysiologist who has been practicing neurology in Ballarat since 2010. 

 

Dr Lau graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed her neurology training at Austin Health, Melbourne and Barwon Health, Geelong. She has fellowship subspecialty training in multiple sclerosis (MS) and neurophysiology (nerve conduction studies and electromyography-NCS/EMG). She developed the multiple sclerosis service in Ballarat Base Hospital and has headed it since 2010. The service provides essential MS care to a large regional community of patients in the Ballarat, Grampians and Wimmera regions.

 

Dr Lau accepts a wide range of neurological referrals including epilepsy, headaches/migraines, Parkinson’s disease, neuromuscular disorders and general neurology. She maintains a special interest in MS, other demyelinating diseases, and NCS/EMG studies.

Dr Kraemer is a General Neurologist and accepts referrals across a wide range of neurological disorders including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, neuropathies, myopathies, neurodegenerative disorders including dementias, musculoskeletal disorders and acute and chronic headaches. 

 

Dr Kraemer provides botulinum treatment for acute and chronic migraine, hemifacial spasm, blepharospasm, hyperhidrosis and cranial nerve blocks for headache treatment.

Dr Wesley Thevathasan is a consulting neurologist. He is accomplished in the treatment of movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia and epilepsy. He employs the most advanced technical treatments to achieve the best possible outcomes.


Dr Thevathasan specialises in movement disorders and deep brain stimulation. He trained as a neurologist in Melbourne, and acquired further international training in movement disorders and deep brain stimulation (DBS) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and the National Hospital, Queen Square, London.


He was appointed consultant neurologist to the DBS service at Oxford where he managed DBS on a wide range of patients. He was closely involved in the creation of a new form of DBS for Parkinson’s disease.


Wes currently holds a National Health and Medical Research Council fellowship and project grant to advance the effectiveness of DBS. He is also involved in creating guidelines for DBS with a number of international committees.
